August 6, 200 Week 12 Not much new has been happening, except that I'm now wearing maternity clothes almost exclusively (or at least very comfy, stretchy pants!), and I'm definitely starting to show a pregnant belly and not just water retention! You can definitely see a little "baby pooch" forming around my stomach. This is a big week for me, not only is it our third anniversary on Wednesday (THREE YEARS ALREADY!!!), but we're also driving down to Springfield Missouri this weekend for Phil's 10 year reunion. And this coming Saturday starts Second Trimester, too! I've been dealing with a continuous headache for over a week. It's been pretty hard on me, especially since it seems to get worse around bed time, so I'm not sleeping very well. I called my doctor's office today to ask about it, and the nurse I talked to said that it is probably two headaches forming into one really bad, lingering headache: sinus and low blood sugar. Last night I woke up around 2 am with my head pounding horribly, and my eyes were so swollen that they were almost shut. The nurse told me that it sounded like a really bad sinus headache, but that the reason why they seemed to always get worse in the middle of the night was because I didn't have any food in my body in the middle of the night, so that was causing its own headache. So both of those together in one has made for some pretty rough times lately! I seem to be extra sensitive to things that attack my allergies, too. Last weekend I stopped over at my mom's house for only about 15 minutes to pick up some clothes she had gotten for me from Ebay (yay! Clothes that fit!) and by the time Phil and I left, I could hardly breathe and my skin was itching really badly. I've always been allergic to their dog Cocoa, but it never affected me that fast before, and not to that degree. And since I can't take my normal allergy medicines when I go over there, that means I will probably have to really limit the time I spend over there the next few months... :-( After I talked to the nurse today and she assured me that I could take a sinus headache medicine that we had picked up at the store (it's basically a Tylenol and Sudafed mix, both drugs I can supposedly take without it affecting the babyand I hope that is still the case 10 years down the road unlike most medicines that were called "safe"!) I took one this afternoon so hopefully I should start feeling better. I really have hated taking so much Tylenol, mostly I've just tried to suffer through these headaches as long as possible but like last night I just couldn't take it anymore because it got so bad. Hopefully I'll start feeling better within a day or two; if not, I'm supposed to call the doctor back and move up my appointment for this week, just to make sure nothing else is wrong. (My next appointment is scheduled for next Tuesday, August 14. Hopefully we'll get to hear the heartbeat!!) I'm starting to feel like I'm getting more energy, though lately it's kind of hard to tell since I haven't been sleeping well at night. But I have noticed that I haven't been dying for my mid-day nap or my post-work, pre-dinner nap so much! That's definitely an improvement! This is my last week of the first trimester, so I'm expecting things to get much better really soon. I just have to make sure I start eating more frequent meals than I have been, and to eat a bedtime snack so that I don't run out of fuel during then night. It's just not like me to eat before bed, though, I've been conditioned by years of hearing that bedtime is the worst time to eat because you don't burn off any of the calories, so now I don't ever get hungry right before bed. Phil and I also need to change our weekend eating habits, where we sleep in late then don't get around to eating until after noon, and then usually have one more meal during the day. That's our typical Saturday routine, and on Sundays we're usually rushing to church and don't eat breakfast, so it's pretty much the same thing. So we have to start making a real effort to start eating more frequently or really, *I* do. If Phil follows pregnancy eating patterns, he's going to get a pregnancy belly too! :-) I just can't believe that my second trimester is starting already. Time has gone so quickly (at least so far, we'll see how I feel in another few months!!) What is really amazing to me is that by this point, the baby is completely formed as far as organs, fingers, and toes, and even toenails. From here it's just going to get bigger! And so am I! |
