July 16, 2001 Week 9 We had our first physical doctor's appointment today! The appointment was for 1:00, but as happens sometimes when you are going to a baby doctor, Dr. Teague was away delivering a baby when we got there. About an hour later, we went back into the exam room area, and she was just coming in, still in her scrubs. She made all kinds of apologies for running so late, but we told her hey, it's part of the job description so you have to expect it! (Plus who knows how many people WE will make wait when it comes to be our turn?) When the nurse weighed me, I had lost 1 pound since my last visit a few weeks ago. That didn't surprise me, though, because it is all I can do to eat a normal amount of food these days! Typically, I eat about five bites and I'm full. I'm trying to make the calories I do get really count though, I'm eating a lot of fruits and veggies. I try to eat meat too, but that's usually what fills me up the fastest...and of course there's that "no chicken" problem, so I've had to be more creative with my meal decisions. Pork is high on my shopping list these days. This morning, I woke up with an absolute splitting headache, worse then I've had in recent memory. I stayed at work for a few hours, then decided to take a half day since I was getting nothing done anyway - it was the kind of headache that made me feel even MORE nauseated than normal. This headache has now lingered on, too. Mostly because all I can take is Tylenol, which seems to temporarily help, but then the headache just comes back. But even though I was feeling pretty sick from the headache, I was very excited about going to my appointment, though I didn't know if she would do an ultrasound our not. I really hoped so, but I didn't know. When we got to the doctor's, we were led to the ultrasound room, so that made me happy (despite all the other unpleasantries that were forthcoming!) After Dr. Teague did the rest of the normal exam, we then did the ultrasound. She dimmed the lights, and Phil came in closer, and then suddenly, there was our baby on the screen! "It's" heart was beating very rapidly and strongly, so Dr. Teague pointed that out and said everything looks very good. When I said something about the heartbeat, she said "just wait until you get to hear it!" Also, she took a couple looks around, to be sure there were no other babies in there! Nope, only one! We were very relieved to only see one baby, because that's enough to learn to deal with as first time parents! While it would be cute to have twins, the possibility did scare me a little, and it was also nice that there weren't even MORE than that, as was possibile since I was on the Clomid. Right as she finished looking around, Dr. Teague's beeper when off and she was being called back to the hospital (the baby hadn't been delivered yet) so she unfortunately had to rush out pretty quickly, but she assured us that things looked really good. She printed out a couple copies of the ultrasound, and then made a couple for her records, then it was over. It all happened so fast, and Phil and I were pretty much in a daze throughout. I will never be able to forget the sight of our baby's heart beating, so strong and fast, though. It's such a miracle, and suddenly it all felt very real! |
